PACIFIC PHYSICAL THERAPY

PACIFIC PHYSICAL THERAPY is owned by Mike Seger, PT. Mike is a 1976 graduate of the University of Iowa Physical Therapy program. He has completed extensive post graduate training in ergonomics, injury prevention and rehabilitation of work related injuries. Pacific Physical Therapy has been conducting customized injury prevention programs for the San Francisco Bay area since 1987. Services provided include Ergonomic Work Risk Analysis, Back Injury Prevention Training, Neck-Arm CTD Prevention Training, Ergonomic Team Training, and a specialized class called the Sit-Smart Program focused on the ergonomic parameters of computer workstations.

Pacific Physical Therapy specializes in tailoring Injury Prevention Programs to the specified needs of client companies. Brief postural screenings, one on one lifting techniques, and a customized slide program of your employees in their work environment, are incorporated to facilitate a participatory and more customized injury prevention program. A portable electromyograph is used to provide audible biofeedback of key muscles during lifting tasks. Plastic models of the spine and arm are used to demonstrate anatomy and spinal mechanics. Specific stretching exercises, applicable to the work setting, are demonstrated and practiced.

Programs stress employee education and behavioral modification to make each worker an expert in avoiding injury. Emphasis is focused on teaching techniques to work more efficiently, thus preventing fatigue which can lead to injury.

WORKSITE

WORKSITE is a division of INJURY RECOVERY CENTER, INC. and is owned by Michael Koerner, PT, and John Hubbard, PT. WORKSITE utilizes physical therapists, occupational therapists and a certified ergonomist to provide ergonomic work risk analysis, back injury prevention training and ergonomic team training for industry in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties. WORKSITE provides injury prevention ideas, management and training to a wide variety of employers and industrial settings.

INJURY RECOVERY CENTER has locations in the Orange County areas of Brea and Santa Ana. The clinics specialize in Workers' Compensation injury rehabilitation, utilizing physical therapy, occupational therapy, and work hardening programs. The emphasis on the rehabilitation program is on functional retraining of the injured worker to increase the ability to perform critical job demands required within his/her job description guidelines. Personalized ergonomic training, biomechanical training, postural intervention and specific measurable functional gains which include computerized testing is provided to all injured workers. INJURY RECOVERY CENTER's philosophy is to provide a highly energized and motivated environment, along with proper functional equipment to achieve maximum results and information for the injured worker. The use of progress reports to document increased function, endurance and abilities to meet the critical job demands are provided to the doctor, employer and insurance companies.

The INJURY RECOVERY CENTER also has designed a new aggressive rehabilitation program for repetitive strain injuries, including carpal tunnel syndrome sufferers. The program has achieved great success in ending the need for carpal tunnel surgery to many workers. Many of the participants are already scheduled for carpal tunnel surgery prior to the program and upon completion of the program have avoided the need for surgical intervention. The workers suffering from repetitive strain injuries involving carpal tunnel syndrome have shown a significant improvement in function, reduced symptoms and objective measurable improvements in the nerve conduction studies affecting the median nerve, which is involved in the carpal tunnel syndrome. One worker who was scheduled for surgical intervention on a Thursday, but had begun the program two days earlier, on a Tuesday, was able to cancel his surgery. Another patient had surgery scheduled and had begun the program as a last effort to avoid surgery. Following the program, she had nerve conduction velocity testing, which registered below clinical carpal tunnel syndrome and she avoided the surgery altogether.

Each injured worker that avoids surgery saves the employer approximately $25,000.00 in medical and rehabilitation bills, along with approximately $100,000.00 in associated hidden costs, such as Workers' Compensation premium, lost time off the job, decreased productivity, etc.

The program consists of ergonomic analysis and changes performed at the work site, exploration into daily activities and hobbies, and postural retraining and stretching exercises. Customized splinting may be required in individualized cases. Neuromuscular therapy provides specific tissue mobilization within the cervical and arm areas. Proper modification and rest areas allow the worker to return to full duty on a safe basis. WORKWISE

Work Wise is a team of medical professionals specifically trained in Ergonomics and Work Risk Analysis. We work with employees and management. The primary goal is injury cost reduction by teaching the employee to view themselves as industrial athletes. Our training emphasizes musculo-skeletal movement, posture, and human biomechanics. Strengthening the industrial athlete improves work tolerance, prevents tissue damage, decreases wear of already damaged tissues, and minimizes CTD (Cumulative Trauma Disorder). By approaching worker behaviors, supervisor attitudes, management policies and employee relations we can, as a team, develop a safe working environment.

Work Wise uses the IMPACC Work Injury Prevention Training Program, an internationally recognized authority on work injury prevention. IMPACC programs have been used in over 350 workplaces throughout North America since 1983, showing a 40%-90% reduction in lost work days. IMPACC USA's program complies with OSHA Ergonomic Guideline #3123.

Work Wise:

The Work Wise philosophy is not of workplace re-design only, but one which emphasizes increasing employee strength and physiological tolerance. We use a wide variety of approaches to accomplish this, such as preventative stretching, posture relief tactics, sit-stand options, task rotation, alternative material handling techniques, and training the employee in personal work habits and self-care. These methods are proven just as effective, and far less costly than solely workplace re-design.

Ask yourself these questions:

If you answered yes to any of these questions, Work Wise can turn this around. See more profits, lower Workers' Compensation costs, and decrease injury claims.

Work Wise is owned and operated by Kristine Hintzman, B.S., P.T.A. Ms. Hintzman has over four years of experience as a specialist trained in musculo-skeletal function, musculo-skeletal diseases and injuries. She supplements this with seven years of corporate management experience.
